Mathaji Book Centre

Mathaji Book Centre is tucked away in the 2nd Phase of Mathikere. We are located at 41299 on 1st Main Road. This part of town gets quite busy during the school season. We open up early because that is when people are moving about. The shop isn’t very big, so we have to use every inch of the walls for the books and notebooks. We have been here for a good while now, and the neighborhood has changed around us. There are more shops now than there used to be. Every morning, we sweep the front and check the stock. The overhead light in the back has a bit of a hum to it, but you get used to it after an hour. We don’t have any fancy displays or anything like that. It is just rows of books and some stationery behind the counter. Sometimes the rain comes down hard and we have to move the racks back from the door quickly. We know most of the people who live on 1st Main by sight. They stop in for a pen or to ask about a specific textbook. We just do our work and keep things moving. It is a simple way to spend the day. The shelves are made of dark wood and they are getting a bit worn at the edges. We keep a small radio on the shelf, usually playing some local news.
