Jupiter The Book People

Our place is called Jupiter House, located in Rabrindranath Tagore Nagar near Sion Koliwada. We have a lot of books here, hence the name. It is a quiet building mostly. We spend our time sorting through stacks of paper, new arrivals, and older stock that has been sitting for a while. It is not a shiny new bookstore with a cafe; it is more of a working space where books are the main focus. We have shelves reaching up to the ceiling and sometimes we need a ladder just to find one specific title. The neighborhood is fairly calm, which is nice for a change. We started this because we just liked being around printed words. Sometimes the roof leaks a little when it rains really hard, so we have to move the boxes around quickly to keep them dry. We are not a big chain store with thousands of employees. It is just a few of us who know where the different sections are kept. We do not really do much in the way of marketing. People usually find us through word of mouth or because they live nearby and saw the sign. We try to keep things simple. If you are looking for something specific, we check the handwritten lists we keep. It is an old-fashioned way of doing things, I guess. We open up around mid-morning and usually stay until the sun goes down. It’s a good way to spend the day.
