Geetha Book Centre

Geetha Book Centre is situated at 104 Mohitewadi Shelpimpalgaon Chickpet. This is a very old part of town, and the streets are quite tight. We are surrounded by other shops, mostly textiles and wholesale traders. Being in Chickpet means there is a lot of energy around us all day long. Our shop is at 104 Mohitewadi, and it is filled with the smell of old paper. We have books in English and the local languages too. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so we have to use a wooden ladder to reach the ones at the top. It is a bit of a workout. We do not have much space for customers to sit, so they usually just stand in the aisles and flip through the pages. The floor is made of old stone, and it stays cool even when it is hot outside. We do not bother with air conditioning; the thick walls do the job. Sometimes the rain leaks a little near the back door, so we have to move the books away from that spot when the clouds get dark. We have been here for many years now, and the shop has not changed much. We still use the same heavy iron key to open the front shutter every morning. It is just a regular place where we sell books and talk to the neighbors. There is no fancy business here, just us and the piles of paper and ink.
