Choose And Read Books

Our place is right on 30th Cross in the 4th Block, which is a busy part of Gandhi Bazaar. If you know the 8th B Main, you know how crowded it gets around here with all the flower sellers and people doing their daily shopping. Choose And Read Books is tucked into No.33/4, and it’s been our second home for years. We aren't a big chain store, just a local spot where people can pick up a paperback and go. The name is pretty simple because that is what people do. They come in, look through the rows, and pick what they like. I spend most of my mornings sorting through the new arrivals that come in boxes. Some of them are a bit bent at the corners, but the stories inside are still good. The floor is made of old tile that's seen a lot of feet walking over it. We have a small stool for people to sit on if they want to check a few pages before buying. Sometimes kids come in after school looking for comics and they make a bit of a mess, but it’s fine. It feels good to see people still wanting to hold a real book. I keep a ledger under the counter where I write down the names of people who are looking for specific titles. If those books ever come in, I let them know. It’s a bit of extra work but it keeps the regulars happy.
