Bhagya Lakshmi Book Stores

Bhagya Lakshmi Book Stores is tucked into the P S Building at number 51 on Avenue Road. If you know anything about Avenue Road, you know it’s the heart of the book trade in the city. It is a crowded, noisy, and narrow street, but it has its own rhythm. Our shop is just like the others around here—full of books from the floor to the rafters. We have been in this building for years. It’s a bit of a maze getting around the stacks sometimes, and the lighting isn't the brightest, but we know where everything is. We deal with a lot of heavy boxes every day as new stock arrives and old stock gets moved out. There is always a layer of dust because of all the paper, but that’s just how it is in a bookshop. We don't have a fancy storefront. It’s just a sign and a lot of books visible from the street. People come from all over to find things on Avenue Road, and we see a mix of everyone from old scholars to young kids. We spend most of our time answering questions about what’s in stock. It’s a busy life, and the air is always thick with the smell of old paper and the sound of horns honking outside. We just keep doing what we do, day in and day out, in our little corner of the building. It’s how things have always been.
