Balaji Book Stores

We've been at S38 in the Sri Balaji Complex for quite a while now. Sultanpet is always busy, so there is usually a lot of noise outside our door. It’s a tight space, but we manage to fit a lot of different books on the shelves. Most days start with unpacking boxes and trying to find room for new stock that just arrived. Sometimes the stacks get a bit high. People come in looking for school books or something to read on the bus, and we do what we can to help them find the right title. It’s not a fancy place. The lights flicker occasionally and the shelves are old wood, but it works for us. We know most of the people who walk past the shop every morning. It feels good being part of the neighborhood. My nephew helps out on weekends when it gets crowded. We keep a ledger for the regular accounts, though sometimes I forget where I put my glasses and have to ask the customers to wait a second. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s hot out. We don’t have a website or anything like that. If someone needs a book, they just drop by the complex and see if we have it. If not, we might be able to get it in a few days. That is just how things go here in this part of town.
