Baba Book Store

Our little place, Baba Book Store, sits right on P. Savani Road in Rajajinagar. It is a busy street, so there is always the sound of horns and people shouting outside the door. The shop is at number 672, and it’s been here quite a long time. The shelves are made of old wood that’s started to creak a bit, but they hold a lot of books. We don’t have a computer system or anything, so I just remember what we have in stock or I go looking for it if someone asks. Usually, the floor is covered with some boxes of new books that I haven't had the time to unpack yet. Rajajinagar is a nice neighborhood, and we get a lot of older folks who come in looking for the morning paper or some local magazines. The front of the store is usually open to the street, so a lot of dust comes in, and I spend a good part of the morning just wiping down the covers. It is a one-room shop with a small desk for me near the entrance. I like sitting there and watching the people go by on Savani Road. Some days are slow, especially when it rains and the water pools up near the curb, but other days it’s non-stop. It’s just a plain book shop for people who live around here and want something to read without going all the way to a big mall.
