Asia Book House

Our place, Asia Book House, is tucked away near the Sri Rama Temple on 5th Main in Chamrajpet. If you know the B Block area at all, you probably know the temple sounds that happen every morning. We open up early and usually start by sweeping the front step. The building is older, so it has those thick walls that keep it a bit cooler when the sun is out. We have piles of books reaching the ceiling in some spots. It can be a bit of a maze if you aren't careful where you walk. I usually know where everything is, even if it looks like a bit of a mess to someone else. We get a lot of students coming through looking for old textbooks or something specific for their classes. The 5th Main road gets quite crowded during festival times because of the temple nearby. We have a small desk near the entrance where we sit and write out receipts by hand for everyone. There isn't any air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that click when they are on high speed. We’ve been here for years, and the neighbors are all like family to us. Sometimes someone will bring over some snacks while we are working. It is a busy life but it feels right being in Chamrajpet. We aren't trying to do anything flashy or modern. It’s just about the books and the people we see every single day.
