Sonamukhi Shasya Shyamala Producer Company Limited is located out in Rangamati Mana, in the Dihipara area of Bankura. Sanatan Majumder is the one who helps keep the place running. The name is a bit long, but it basically means we care about our crops and the land. We are a bunch of local farmers who decided it was better to work as a team. Bankura is known for its red soil and the heat can be really something in the summer. Much of our time is spent worrying about the water levels and making sure the fields are getting what they need. Our office isn't much to look at. It’s practical and usually has some dirt on the floor from someone coming in from the fields. We aren't here to be corporate executives. We’re here to make sure our harvest gets to market and that we have enough money left over to keep going. We help each other with advice on what grows best in this soil and we share whatever resources we can. It’s a simple life, mostly filled with physical labor and hoping for rain. We don't use any fancy language or have big presentations. We just sit down, talk about the work that needs doing, and then go out and do it. That’s how things get done in Dihipara. We take it one season at a time and hope for the best for all our members and their families.
