Arkama Farmers Producer Company Limited

Down here in Arkama village, we set up Arkama Farmers Producer Company Limited. It’s located in the Bankura district, near Khatra. If you live around here, you know it’s mostly farm land and small houses. We are based right in the village, near the P.O. box. Our group is made of people who actually know how to farm. We started this because it felt like a good way to organize things for the local growers. We spend most of our mornings out near the fields or sitting in the small office area we have. It’s not a polished business with a lot of staff. Mostly, it’s just the board members and some help from the village. We talk a lot about crops and the prices we can get. Sometimes the meetings go on for a long time because everyone has an opinion. Bankura can be quite dry, so we worry about the water and the soil quite a bit. It’s a practical life. We don’t use big words or have a website with lots of photos. We just write things down in our books and try to help the farmers around Arkama get their produce moved. It’s a lot of hard work and sometimes things don’t go as planned, like when the transport is late or the weather turns bad suddenly. But that is just part of living in the countryside and working with the land.
