Kanthi Crabprawn Krishi Producer Companylimited is based out of Damondarchak village. We are right by the Janka post office. In this part of the world, crabs and prawns are what everyone knows. The air has that salty, marshy smell to it most of the time. We aren't a big corporate entity with a logo on the wall. It’s more like a group of us sitting in a room near the water. We have a lot of ledgers to keep track of the catch from the local ponds. The name is a bit of a mouthful, so we usually just call it the crab company. Damondarchak is a small place, and everyone knows where we are. We don't need a map to find our office; you just follow the road until you see the crates. Sometimes the mosquitoes are a bit much in the evening, so we try to get most of the paperwork done before sunset. We aren't trying to sell you anything fancy. We just coordinate the krishi work for the local shellfish. The floor is usually a bit sandy because we are so close to the water, but no one really minds. We sit on plastic chairs and drink tea while we figure out the weights and the prices for the day. It’s a practical life, and we don't try to make it sound like anything else. It is just about getting the prawns and crabs ready for the next step in the journey.
