Uma Flour Mill

It gets pretty loud in here when the machines are running, but that's just how it goes at Uma Flour Mill. We’ve been here on the Bombay Market-Punagam Road for quite a while now. Most people around Ishvar Nagar know where to find us. It’s a busy spot in Varachha, especially in the mornings when folks are heading out to work. We spend most of our day covered in a bit of white dust from the grains. It’s messy work, but somebody has to do it so families can have their rotis. The shop is tucked into Kelashdham Society, and we see the same faces every week. It feels like a small village sometimes even though the city is so loud outside. We don’t have fancy signs or a big office. Just the grinders and the bags of wheat stacked up against the walls. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to wait it out with a cup of tea. That’s just part of life here. Ranujadham Society is right nearby, so there's always someone walking past or dropping off a sack. We don’t do anything special, just keep the machines clean and make sure the flour comes out right. If you’re around the area, you’ll probably hear us before you see us. It’s hard work on the legs standing all day, but seeing the neighbors keeps things moving. We just stay focused on the work and try to get everyone through the door quickly.
