Shree Navshakti Flour Mill

We have been running this flour mill for a good many years now over here in the Navapura area. You can find us right in Ghanchi Sheri, tucked away where the lanes get a bit narrow. It is a noisy place, I will tell you that much. The sound of the stones grinding against each other goes on from morning until we close up at night. There is always a layer of fine white dust over everything, no matter how much we try to sweep it up. People from Bhagal and Mahidharpura come by with their sacks of wheat or bajra. We just take the grain, weigh it, and get to work. Sometimes the belt on the motor slips and we have to stop everything to fix it, which takes some time. It is just me and a couple of others working here. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that. Just a couple of stools and the machinery. The air always smells like toasted grain, which isn't so bad once you get used to it. We see the same people every week, mostly neighbors from Begampura who need their flour for the day’s cooking. It is a simple life and the work is hard on the back, but it keeps us busy. We don't do much else besides grinding and bagging. It’s just how we have always done things here in this part of town. Sometimes the heat from the machines makes the room very warm, so we keep the doors open to let some air in.
