Gurukrupa Flour Mill

Gurukrupa Flour Mill is located at Plot 55 on Bamroli Rd in Surat. We are in the Hira Nagar area, part of the Gujarat Housing Board in Nem Nagar, Pandesara. It is a bit of a mouthful to say the whole address, but everyone in Udhna knows the area. The mill is in a neighborhood where families have lived for decades. We see the same faces every week. The building itself is nothing special, just a sturdy place to keep the machines dry and safe. Inside, it is always a bit hazy because of the flour floating in the air. We wear masks sometimes when the wind blows the wrong way. The machines are old but they still work fine as long as we keep them oiled and the stones sharp. We get all kinds of grain brought to us, and we spend the day pouring them into the hoppers. It is repetitive work, but there is a rhythm to it that feels okay. Outside, the street is usually full of kids playing or people heading to work. We fit right into the daily life of the housing board. There is no manager in an office here. We are right there with the sacks and the scales. We close up when the last customer leaves, usually around dinner time. It’s a long day but the work is honest and it keeps us going well enough.
