Tagore Higher Secondary School

This school is located at 265 in Attur, which is a busy part of Tamil Nadu. Tagore Higher Secondary School has been part of this neighborhood for years, and Mr. P. Srinivasan oversees the general operations here. Every morning starts with the sound of the bell ringing and kids running through the gates. The building isn't new, it has some cracks in the paint and the playground gets a bit muddy when it rains, but it serves us well. We have rows of wooden desks and blackboards that have seen thousands of lessons. Teachers walk from one room to another with their registers and chalk. During lunch, the whole place smells like lemon rice and sambar from the tiffin boxes. We don't have air conditioning or fancy labs, just the basic stuff needed to teach the syllabus. The windows stay open to let in the breeze, though it gets quite hot in the afternoons. Parents come in for meetings and sit on the plastic chairs in the hallway. We try to keep the garden at the front somewhat green, though the sun makes it hard. It’s a lot of work managing so many students and keeping the schedule on track every single day. We just take it one day at a time, making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be and learning what they need to know. That is how we have always done it here in 636 114 India.
