Veeralakshmi Vidyalaya Hr Ssec School is right on Senkalpatti Street in the Gugai area of Salem. It’s a higher secondary school, so we deal with the older students mostly. The street is quite narrow and can get very crowded, especially in the afternoons. Our building has a few floors to fit all the classrooms. The stairs are concrete and have been climbed by thousands of feet over the years. We have a lot of students, so the hallways can feel a bit tight when everyone is moving between classes. Teachers have their own small area to sit and correct papers. We have a science lab with some basic equipment and jars on the shelves. In Salem, the heat is always a factor, so we keep the windows wide open to catch any breeze from the street. We have ceiling fans that hum all day long. The students wear their uniforms and we make sure they look neat. It’s a busy place with a lot of talking and teaching going on from morning until evening. We have a desk at the entrance for visitors to sign in. The school has been a part of the Gugai neighborhood for a long time. People know us for being here at the number 4 spot on the street. It’s just a place where students come to get through their higher secondary years and we provide the space for them to do it.
