Kalaivani Metriculation Higher Secondary School

Our school sits right on Salem Main Road in Porpadakurichi. If you’re driving past Kallakurichi, you’ve probably seen the building. It’s a busy spot with all the buses and lorries going by all day long. We’ve been here for a good number of years now, teaching the local kids from the surrounding villages. The morning starts early with the sound of the bell and the kids lining up for prayer. It’s noisy, sure, but it’s a good kind of noise. The classrooms are simple with wooden benches and blackboards that have seen better days. Teachers here are mostly local people who have been with us for a long time. They know the families and which kids need a bit more help with their math or science. We have a small playground where the kids run around during lunch break. It gets quite dusty when the wind picks up from the road. We try to keep things organized, but with hundreds of students, it’s always a bit of a mess. Parents come by in the evenings to pick up their children, and there’s always a bit of a traffic jam at the gate. We don’t do anything too fancy here. Just regular classes, some sports, and making sure the students pass their exams. It’s a practical place, rooted in the community here in Kallakurichi. Most people just know us by word of mouth, which is fine by us. We just keep going.
