Out here in the Ramanaicken Palayam area of Salem, our school stands as a familiar spot for many local families. The address is 689/1B, and if you know the neighborhood, you know it’s a bit away from the main city noise, which is nice. I’ve worked here for a bit now, and the daily routine is pretty much the same. We start early when the buses pull in. The grounds are quite large, so there is always some grass to cut or a fence that needs a bit of paint. Inside, the hallways are wide, and we try to keep them clean, though with so many kids running back and forth, it’s a constant job. The classrooms have big windows to let the light in, which helps during those long afternoon stretches. We aren't trying to be some high-tech center; we just provide a place for kids to learn their subjects and play some sports. The staff room is usually a mess of books and half-empty water bottles. We talk about the kids and the upcoming exams while we have our lunch. Salem weather can be tough, especially in the summer months, but we just keep the windows open and the fans on high. It’s a straightforward school where the goal is just to get through the curriculum and make sure the students are doing okay. It’s a lot of work, but it’s what we do here every single day without much complaint from the staff.
