You can find Oxford School at No 6/3, Aazad Nagar, over in the Suramangalam area of Salem. It’s tucked into the streets there, away from the really heavy traffic of the main city center. We’ve been operating out of this building for some time now. It’s a pretty standard setup for a local school in this part of Tamil Nadu. We have our classrooms and the basic facilities the children need for their daily lessons. It’s not a place with a lot of extra trimmings. We focus on the basics here. The staff mostly comes from the surrounding neighborhoods, so there’s a real local feel to how things are run. In the mornings, you’ll see parents dropping off their kids on scooters, and there’s a bit of a rush at the entrance. Once the gates are closed, it settles down into the usual rhythm of reading and writing. Sometimes the noise from the street drifts in, but the kids are used to it. We try to keep the place tidy, but with so many students, there’s always a bit of wear and tear on the walls and floors. We fix things as they break and keep moving forward. It’s a lot of responsibility, but we just take it one day at a time. It’s a plain, honest school where the goal is just to help the local kids get an education.
