Msv School

Msv School is right here at No 3/30 on Middle Street. Kattukottai isn't the biggest place in Salem, but it’s where we are and where we do our work every day. Every morning starts with the same sound of the front gates opening and the kids walking in from the nearby houses. Most of the families around here know us by name because we’ve been part of this street for quite some time now. The building itself is just a regular place, nothing too fancy, but it does the job for the neighborhood. We have some classrooms with desks that have seen better days, but they’re sturdy enough for the daily lessons. The sun hits the front porch around noon and that’s when the younger ones get their lunch break. Sometimes the dust from the road gets in, so we spend a lot of time sweeping the floors. It’s not like those big city schools you see on TV with huge playgrounds and fancy equipment. We make do with the space we have. Teachers come in from the surrounding villages, and they usually bring their own lunch tins. There’s a lot of talking in the staff room about how the weather is changing or how the local bus was late again. We try to keep the books in order and make sure the blackboard is clean for the next day. It’s a lot of work just keeping everything running smoothly, especially when the rains come.
