Home Foods is run out of 114, First Agraharam. It’s a quiet street with a lot of history. Our building is an old house that has been in the family for a long time. We didn't want to work in a big factory, so we just set things up here. We make food products like masalas and traditional mixes. It’s a very small-scale operation. We use the kitchen and a back room for all the grinding and mixing. There aren't any massive machines making noise. It’s mostly just the sound of someone stirring a pot or the stone grinder running. We use the sun in the courtyard to dry some of our ingredients. It’s a slow way to do things, but it’s how we like it. We don't have a marketing person or a sales team. We just put a simple label on the packets and people buy them because they know us. The neighborhood is very close-knit, so everyone knows what we are doing. Sometimes the smell of roasting spices fills the whole street. We don't have a fancy store. You just come to the front door and ask for what you need. It’s a very personal way to do business. We aren't interested in becoming a huge brand. We just want to keep making things the way they’ve always been made. It’s a peaceful life here at First Agraharam. We just keep our production small and our flavors honest for the people who buy from us.
