Baskar Caterers

Baskar Caterers operates out of No 33/A 1, which is in TVS Colony, specifically the Meenakshmi Nagar section of Hastampatti. We are right here in Salem, and it’s a pretty nice neighborhood to be in. Most of our day is spent in the kitchen, dealing with large pots and the smell of spices. It’s a lot of manual work, getting everything ready for whatever event we are handling that week. We don't have a big storefront with lights; it’s more of a production space where we get the cooking done. People in Hastampatti usually know us by word of mouth because we’ve been doing this for a while. It’s not a glamorous job, especially when you have to be up before the sun to start the prep work. We just focus on getting the flavors right and making sure there is enough for everyone to eat. Sometimes the kitchen gets really hot and crowded when we have a big order, but that is just the way it goes in catering. We use simple ingredients and do things the way we were taught. Our place in TVS Colony is where all the planning happens, usually over a cup of tea while we look at the grocery lists. We aren't interested in being the biggest name in town, just in making sure the food we send out is good and arrives on time. It's just a small group of us working together every day.
