Buddies Tours

Our little setup is at No 58, Subbaiya Street, right across from the Pondicherry railway station. It is a very busy location because of the trains coming and going at all hours. We see a lot of people walking out of the station with heavy bags, looking a bit confused about where to go next. We have a small sign out front so people can spot us easily. The office is just a basic room where we keep our logs and take phone calls for bookings. It can get pretty cramped when a few groups arrive at the same time, but we manage to sort everyone out eventually. Since we are right there by the tracks, you can hear the whistles and the announcements all day long. We started this because we liked meeting new people and we knew we could help them get to their hotels or see the sights without too much trouble. It is not a high-end travel agency with fancy lounge chairs or anything. We just have some plastic chairs and a desk that has seen better days. The guys who drive for us are mostly friends or relatives from the neighborhood. We mostly just talk to people about where they want to go and then find a way to get them there in one of our cars. It’s a lot of work when the big trains arrive, but it keeps the day moving quickly for all of us.
