Mamey Di Hatti is at Shop no 153 in Sarojini Nagar. If you know Sarojini, you know it’s a maze of small shops and people looking for a good deal. We have been here for a long time. The shop is small, so we have to use every inch of space we have. Clothes are piled up on the counters and tucked into the shelves. We mostly have everyday wear. The alley outside is narrow and there are always people walking past. In the summer, it gets very hot, so we keep a small desert cooler running near the door, but it doesn't do much. We start our day by sweeping the front of the shop and setting out the hangers. The morning is the only quiet time we get before the college kids and shoppers show up. We have a small stool behind the counter where we take turns sitting. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the years. Sometimes the light in the back room goes out and we have to use a torch to find things. We don't have any fancy displays. We just put the clothes out where people can see them. It's a busy, noisy place to work, but it keeps us on our feet all day long. We know most of the other shopkeepers in this lane. It’s just a regular clothes shop in a crowded market, nothing more than that really.
