Marang Buru Farmers Producer Company Limited operates out of the village of Keutunimari, which falls under the Chandua police station area in Mayurbhanj. Our office is basically at Ramchandra Marndi’s house. Mayurbhanj is a large district with a lot of forest and farmland, and Keutunimari is one of those quiet villages where everyone knows their neighbor. Ramchandra is the person most people look for when they have business with the producer company. It is a simple setup in a rural part of Orissa. We don’t have fancy computers or a big staff. It is mostly just the local farmers coming by to talk about their rice or whatever else is growing that month. The road to the village can be a bit rough after a big storm, but that is part of living in the countryside. We are deep in the Chandua area, so it is quite a trip from the main city. We keep our records in a simple way and make sure the farmers in our group are looked after. There is no corporate polish here, just a lot of hard work and local knowledge. Most of our meetings happen on the porch or in the main room of the house. People walk or ride their cycles here from the nearby fields. It is an honest way to run a company, and we prefer it that way. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing.
