Spicy World

Spicy World is at 53, Vivekananda Road. It’s a long street, and we are just one of the many small businesses along it. As soon as you step inside, the smell of ground chilies and turmeric hits you. We spend most of our time weighing out spices into small plastic bags. The shelves are lined with jars of all sizes. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned shop. We don't have any digital displays or anything like that. We use an old scale and write the prices on a chalkboard. Vivekananda Road is always busy with pedestrians and cars honking. Sometimes it's hard to hear the customers over the noise. We get a mix of people, from housewives looking for a pinch of something to restaurant workers buying in bulk. The walls are a bit stained from years of spice dust, but it gives the place some character. We don't do any big promotions. We just keep the bins full. Usually, we are busy grinding or mixing in the back room where it's a bit cooler. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. We aren't trying to be a big brand. We just want to make sure the jars are stocked and the floor is swept at the end of the night. It's a small space, but we've lived in this neighborhood forever, so it feels like home. We just open up the shutters every morning and start the day's work.
