Bengal Spice Factory

You can find us at 18F, Sree Gopal Mullick Lane. It’s one of those narrow streets where you have to be careful when two cars try to pass each other. We’ve been here at the Bengal Spice Factory for a long time, and the building has definitely seen better days, but it serves our purpose just fine. The air inside is always thick with the smell of different spices. Some days it’s mostly chili, which makes everyone cough a little, and other days it’s the sweeter smell of cinnamon or cardamom. We don’t have a fancy showroom. When you come by, you’ll mostly see bags of raw spices stacked up against the walls and the machines running in the back. It’s a loud place once the grinding starts, and the floor is usually covered in a fine layer of dust. We spend our time checking the quality of what comes in and making sure it’s ground properly before it goes into the packets. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, moving sacks from the trucks into the storage area. The neighbors are mostly other small businesses, so we all know each other. We usually have a quick tea break in the afternoon when the heat is at its worst. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep things moving and try to stay on top of the orders that come in. It’s a long day, but we get it done.
