Era Masale is situated at Plot Number 421 in Shiri Ram Nagar, which is part of the Kasba area. It’s a residential neighborhood mostly, so it’s fairly quiet except for the usual sounds of people living their lives. We have our workshop set up on the plot and it’s where we do all the grinding and mixing. The air always has a bit of a kick to it because of the chilies and pepper we handle. We’ve had a few people sneeze when they first walk in, but we are used to it by now. The workspace is simple, with concrete floors and some sturdy wooden tables. We don’t have any fancy decorations on the walls, just a calendar and some notes tacked up. Most of the work is done by hand or with some old-fashioned grinders that have been with us for years. We like being in Shiri Ram Nagar because it’s a friendly place. The kids often play cricket in the street nearby, and we have to be careful when we’re moving the van out of the gate. It’s a small operation, just a local business trying to make a living day by day. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the ingredients that come in from the suppliers. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us active. We don’t really have a marketing plan or anything like that. We just focus on the daily tasks.
