Druk Spices is based in Kasba, over by Ruby Park. It’s a lively neighborhood, and we’re right in the thick of it. Our place is basically a large room filled with sacks of various spices. The smell is very strong when you walk in—sometimes it makes you sneeze if we’re handling the chili powder. We’ve been here for a few years now. It started when my brother and I decided to stop working for other people and try our own hand at the spice trade. Most of our days are spent weighing out portions and sealing them up. We don't have any high-tech equipment, just some old-fashioned scales and a heat sealer that sometimes needs a good thump to work. The light in the back of the shop is a bit dim, so we mostly work near the front where the sun comes in. We have a few regular customers who come by every week, and we always spend a few minutes chatting with them. We aren't looking to expand into some giant empire. We just like the work we do and the people we meet. Sometimes the deliveries are late because of the traffic in Kasba, but we just deal with it. It’s a modest living, but it’s ours. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves. We’re just the spice guys near Ruby Park.
