Anup Bhandar

I started at 82, B L Ghosh Road a long time back. Belgharia is a busy place, especially being so close to the 11 No Bus Stand. You can hear the conductors shouting all day and the smell of diesel is just part of the air here. Anup Bhandar is just a regular shop. I spend most of my time moving bags around or checking what is left on the shelves. It is not a big space, so things get cramped. Sometimes people have to wait outside if there are more than three customers at once. I do not mind. We talk about the local news while I weigh out their items. The floor is old stone and it stays a bit cool in the heat. There is a lot of dust from the road, so I am always wiping things down with an old cloth. It is a basic routine. I open the shutters early, take the milk packets, and start the day. The tea stall nearby sends over a cup around ten. That is usually the best part of the morning. By evening, it is even busier with everyone coming home from work. They grab what they forgot in the morning. I do not use a computer or anything, just a notebook for the accounts. It has worked for years, so I see no reason to change it. Just a local shop for local people.
