Down in Padder, specifically in the village of Galhar-I, life moves at a different pace. We are Nagsen Bhoomi Samridhi Farmer Producer Company Limited and we are basically just a group of farmers trying to work together. Sh. Sewa Ram lets us use his place as a base of operations. It is a rugged area and farming here takes a lot of patience. The soil is good if you know how to treat it, but the weather can be a real challenge sometimes. We started this company to help each other out with seeds and selling what we grow. It is not easy to get things in and out of Padder because of the terrain, so being a collective makes sense for us. Most of the people involved are neighbors who have known each other for decades. We meet up in the evenings to discuss the crops and what needs to be done for the next season. There is no corporate ladder here, just people who understand the dirt and the seasons. Our paperwork is kept simple and we don't spend money on fancy signs or advertising. If you come looking for us, you just ask for Sewa Ram’s house in the village. It is a humble setup but it works for what we need. We just want our land to be productive so our families can stay here. It takes a lot of effort to keep things going when the winter sets in, but we have a good community spirit that keeps us motivated throughout the year.
