Nagrota Mahila Samriddhi Producer Company Limited

Our company is a bit special because it’s mostly the women from around Nagrota Bagwan who are running the show. We are based in Samloti village, specifically in Ward Number 3, at Onkar Singh’s place. Kangra is a beautiful place to farm, but it takes a lot of effort to keep everything running. We call ourselves Nagrota Mahila Samriddhi because we wanted to focus on how we can all prosper together. Most of us are out in the fields for most of the day, so we usually meet up in the evenings to talk about company business. We deal with all sorts of local produce, and since there are so many of us, there’s always someone who knows the answer to a problem. We aren't used to the corporate way of doing things, so our meetings are usually pretty loud and full of talk about the village and our families too. It’s hard to separate the work from life when you live right next to the fields. We handle our own packing and sometimes we have to struggle with the transport to get the goods out of Samloti. It’s a lot of manual labor, but we are used to it. Sometimes we just sit and drink tea while we discuss the seed quality. We just want to make sure our families are taken care of and that our farming traditions stay alive. We work as a team and help each other when someone falls behind.
