About Elen Farms Llp – Agriculture & Farming in Kangra
We are located over in Mahal Nain, right near the old Angora Rabbit Breeding Farm in Palampur. It’s a nice enough spot, though I think the rabbits next door get more visitors than we do most weeks. This is an LLP, which just means it’s a small group of us running the show together on this land. We mostly deal with the fields around here in the shadows of the big Dhauladhar mountains. Palampur is famous for the tea gardens, but we do our own thing on this specific patch of earth. The soil is pretty good, though it takes a lot of hard work and long hours to keep it productive. We don't have a big team of secretaries or any of those glossy brochures you see in the city. Usually, if you come by to see us, you’ll find one of us with dirt on our boots and a hat on. We just try to grow what makes sense for the current season and what the weather allows. Sometimes we get the weather forecast wrong, and we have to scramble in the rain to save the plants. It's a quiet life for the most part, except when the tourists are passing through the village to see the rabbits. We like the pace of it here and don't feel the need to rush. We don't use a lot of big words to describe what we do because it’s just farming at the end of the day. You plant the seeds, you wait, you hope for rain, and you harvest. It’s simple but it takes up all your time.
