Sri Aurobindo School

Our school sits right on the Pal Chopasani Link Road in Jodhpur. It’s a busy spot and the traffic never really stops, so you can always hear the cars and bikes from the classrooms. The building has been here for a good while, and it shows in some places where the paint is peeling or the gates squeak a bit when you open them. Jodhpur gets incredibly hot, especially in May, so we keep the fans going all day long. Most of the teachers have worked here for years and they know the families in the neighborhood. We don't have a lot of fancy technology or big screens. We mostly use chalkboards and old wooden desks that have names carved into them from students who left a decade ago. During the breaks, the kids run around the small courtyard and it gets very loud. There is a small tea stall just outside the main gate where the staff usually goes to get a quick drink. We spend a lot of time just managing the day-to-day things, like making sure there is enough water in the coolers or fixing a broken light. It’s a simple place, not at all like those polished schools you see in magazines. We just focus on the lessons and getting through the syllabus. Sometimes the dust from the road blows inside and we have to wipe down the tables twice a day. It’s just how things are here in this part of town.
