Jodhpur is known for being the sun city, and it definitely feels like that here in the Basni area. R S M International School is located in Sector B of Saraswati Nagar. It’s a growing part of town with a lot of new houses and small shops popping up. The school building is a fairly large one that stands out. We have a big gate where the guard sits on a stool all day. Inside, the floors are usually a bit dusty because of the desert wind that blows through Jodhpur, no matter how much we sweep. The classrooms have big windows to let in whatever breeze we can get. We have a playground that’s mostly sand and dirt, where the kids play cricket or run around during their free time. The teachers are a mix of young people starting out and some who have been teaching for thirty years or more. We have a small staff room where there’s almost always a pot of tea going on the stove. It’s a simple setup for everyone. We don’t have much in the way of high-end equipment or fancy gadgets. We use textbooks and blackboards for the most part. Sometimes we have small events in the courtyard where all the students sit on the ground to watch. It’s a very traditional way of doing things. We just want to provide a place where local kids can learn without too much fuss or extra cost. It’s a steady, quiet life here in this part of Jodhpur.
