If you go to Ward No.3 in the Banar area of Jodhpur, you will see Nehru Adarsh Vidyamandir Sec. School. Jodhpur is a place of bright sun and blue buildings, and we are right out there in the Banar suburb. It’s a bit of a walk from some parts, but the kids from the local houses make it every morning. The school is a secondary school, so we focus on the middle and high school years. It is a simple structure, nothing that would stand out in a magazine, but it serves the community well. We spend our mornings checking uniforms and making sure the chalkboards are clean. The rooms can get pretty warm in the Jodhpur heat, so the fans are always spinning at top speed. We know the parents who live in Ward No.3 because we see them at the market or at the temple. It feels very connected to the local life. We don't have a public relations team or a fancy website; we just have our gates and our classrooms. The staff has been around for a long time, and we’ve seen the neighborhood grow and change around us. Sometimes the sand blows in from the outskirts, and we have to sweep out the corridors more than once a day. It’s just the reality of living and working in this part of Rajasthan. We just take it day by day and keep the kids focused on their schoolwork.
