Thalassery Adukkala Biriyani

So we started Thalassery Adukkala Biriyani at No 53/726 on Convent Road in Ponnurunni. If you know Vyttila, you know it can get pretty crowded around here. We are tucked away a bit in the Ernakulam 682019 area. The name Adukkala just means kitchen, and that is really what we are—a kitchen first. We didn't want to make a big corporate style place with shiny signs. Instead, we just wanted a spot where the biriyani is the main thing people talk about. Every morning we get started early on Convent Road. It is a lot of work getting the spices right and making sure the rice is how it should be. We have been here for a bit now and the neighbors know us. It is funny how word travels in Vyttila without having to spend money on ads. People just tell their friends and they show up. The shop isn't massive, but we make it work. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than we expect, but that's just how it goes when you make everything fresh in a small kitchen. Ernakulam has a lot of places to eat, but we try to keep our head down and just focus on our own pots and pans. If you are walking down Ponnurunni and smell something good, it might be us. We don't do anything special besides cook and serve. That's the whole story.
