If you're around Ayyappankavu in Ernakulam North, you might have passed us. We’re right there in the middle of everything. The restaurant is a small operation. It’s usually me and a couple of others handling the tables and the cooking. The kitchen gets incredibly hot in the afternoons, especially when the lunch crowd starts coming in from the nearby offices. Ernakulam - 682018 is a busy zone, so we get a lot of regulars who just want a quick meal before they go back to work. We don't have a big fancy menu with pictures. It's mostly just what we can cook fresh that day. Sometimes we run out of things early and have to tell people we're sorry. The tables are a bit old and the floor is worn down from people walking in and out. It’s not the kind of place you’d find in a magazine, but it’s real. We spend a lot of time washing dishes and prepping vegetables for the next shift. Sometimes the rain in Kerala makes things a bit damp and slow, but we keep the shutters open. People know us by name around here. We don't bother with fancy decorations or mood lighting. It’s just a place to eat food that tastes like it was made in a normal kitchen. We’re just local people serving other local people, trying to make a living and keeping the stove burning every single day.
