Kai Shek Chinese Restaurant

It’s a bit tucked away on Amulya Street, right behind the Canara Bank on Banerji Road. If you know Ernakulam, you know how hectic Banerji Road can get at almost any hour of the day. We are just off that main drag, so it’s a little quieter but you still hear the buses honking all the time. Kai Shek has been our project for a while now. The kitchen gets really hot, especially in the afternoons when we’re prepping everything for the evening rush. We serve Chinese food, nothing too complicated, just the usual stuff people around here like to eat. The space isn't huge, but we make it work with the tables we have. Most of our regulars are people working in the offices nearby or folks who live around Padma Junction. Sometimes the rain in Kerala makes things difficult, but we just keep the floor mopped and wait for the dinner crowd. It’s a lot of chopping vegetables and making sure the sauces are ready. There’s no big fancy decor here, just a place to sit and eat. We spend most of our time in the back anyway. Being behind the bank means people sometimes miss us, but once they find the street, they usually come back. It’s just how it goes for a small restaurant in a busy part of town like this. We just keep the kitchen going and the doors open.
