The Roof Top Garden Restaurant

Up here on the roof at 226 Saharanpur Road, you get a decent view of Dehradun. Being near the Niranjanpur Sabzi Mandi means it's always active around here. You can hear the trucks and the shouting from the market early in the morning. We started The Roof Top Garden Restaurant because we had the space and liked the idea of plants everywhere. It’s not a five-star place with white tablecloths. We use simple chairs and have a lot of potted plants that we try to keep watered in the heat. The kitchen is small, and we cook what we know. People from the neighborhood come by after work or on weekends. It gets a bit breezy in the evenings, which is nice since Dehradun can be stuffy. We do all the work ourselves, from buying the vegetables at the mandi next door to serving the plates. It’s a lot of stairs to climb, but once you're up here, the noise of Saharanpur Road feels a little further away. We don't have a big marketing plan or a fancy website. We just open the gates and wait for people to show up. It's an honest living. Some days are busy, some are slow. We just keep the garden growing and the food hot for whoever stops by 226. It’s a lot of effort keeping the plants green, but it makes the roof feel better and more like a real garden instead of just concrete.
