Rajkot Engraving School No1

Our place is on the 4th floor of Kwality Hardware on Gandhi Road. It is a bit of a hike up the stairs but we have been here for quite some time now. Rajkot Engraving School No1 is where local people come to learn how to do things by hand. It is not a fancy school with bright lights or modern decor. We just have heavy workbenches and the tools needed for the job. You can hear the sound of the machines and the scraping of metal most of the day. Dehradun is a busy place and Gandhi Road always has traffic, but up here on the fourth floor it feels a bit different. We aren't some big company with a huge staff. It’s just a few of us showing students how to handle engraving properly. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere and the floor needs a good sweep. We keep the windows open when the weather allows so we can get a bit of a breeze. It's practical work for people who actually want to get their hands dirty. Most people find us because they saw the hardware store sign downstairs. We don't have a big advertising budget or anything like that. We just open up in the morning and do what needs to be done. The area around Gandhi Road can be pretty hectic with all the shops and people, but once you get up to the fourth floor, it is our own little world of engraving.
