Poomathi Ice Cream

Poomathi Ice Cream is tucked away at number 10, Duraisamy Road in T Nagar. Anyone who knows T Nagar knows how hectic it gets with all the shoppers and the noise. Our shop is a bit small, but we pack a lot into it. We’ve got the glass-top freezers right at the front so people can see what we have as they walk by on the sidewalk. It gets pretty dusty out there, so we are constantly wiping down the counters and the glass. We’ve been at this location for some time, and we’ve seen the street change quite a bit. The regulars know us by name, and we know who likes what. It isn’t a high-end boutique or anything like that. It’s just a place to get a cold treat when the Chennai heat gets to be too much. We do our own ordering and sometimes we run out of the popular stuff faster than we expect. That’s just the way it goes. The back room is mostly just storage and a small sink. We don’t have a big staff, just a few of us who take turns behind the counter and sweeping the floor. We don't spend money on fancy signs or ads. We just open the shutters in the morning and stay until the evening rush dies down. It’s a busy life here in T Nagar, but it’s what we know.
