Ice Gate Ice Cream

Ice Gate is located at Door No- 233/1 in Anakaputhur. We are right on Kanni Amman Koil Street, which is a busy little stretch of road. The heat in this part of the country is no joke, so being in the ice cream business feels like a constant battle against the sun. Our shop isn't very large, just enough room for the storage cabinets and a small space for us to move around. The temple nearby brings a lot of people past our door, especially on festival days when the whole street is packed with stalls and music. We have a heavy iron shutter that we roll up every morning. Inside, the walls are painted a light color to try and keep things feeling cool, though the back room where the compressors are is always warm. We spend a lot of time checking the seals on the doors because the humidity can be a real problem. The neighbors are mostly families who have lived in Anakaputhur for generations. Sometimes the kids come by after school just to hang out near the cold air of the entrance. We don't have any big signs, just the name over the door. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting crates and organizing the stock by date. We keep it simple here, just focusing on getting the product out to the local shops before it starts to melt in the heavy afternoon sun that hits our street.
