We’re based out of a place called Porunai on Kuppuswamy Street in the Nerkundram-Koyambedu area. It’s near Golden George Nagar, which is a fairly busy part of Chennai. The office stays pretty active because there’s always someone coming or going to a site visit. Since we do both architecture and interior work, we have a lot of different things going on at once. One day we might be looking at plumbing layouts and the next we’re trying to find the right shade of paint. The space is full of catalogs and material samples that seem to pile up no matter how often we clean. Koyambedu is a loud, energetic place, and our office reflects that a bit. It’s not a sterile environment; it’s a place where work actually happens. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers or arguing over the best way to fix a mistake on a site. That’s just the reality of building things. We aren’t interested in sounding like a big corporation because we’re just local designers trying to do a decent job for the people who hire us. We’ve been in this part of Chennai long enough to know the quirks of the local ground and the weather, which helps when we’re planning things out. We usually have a radio playing in the background to drown out the traffic from Koyambedu. It’s a busy life, but we like the variety of projects that come through the door.
