Sandhu Dhaba

Sandhu Dhaba is located right on the G T Road in Amritsar, specifically at Khasa. We are near Army Gate Number 7, so we see a lot of people from the base as well as travelers driving along the highway. Being a dhaba on the main road means we are used to a lot of dust and the sound of trucks passing by at all hours. It is a simple place, just like you would expect from a roadside spot near the border. We have plenty of space for people to pull over and take a break from their journey. The air out here is a bit different than in the main city of Amritsar, a bit more open. We spend our days making sure the tandoor is hot and there is plenty of tea ready for whoever stops in. It’s a lot of work, especially when a big group arrives all at once, but we manage. We don’t have any of that modern stuff you see in city restaurants. It is mostly wooden benches and a roof over your head. Most of our visitors are tired from driving and just want a plate of food and a place to sit for a minute. The army gates are a familiar sight for us, and the soldiers often stop by too. It’s a plain, honest kind of life out here on the highway. We just keep the doors open and the food cooking, regardless of the weather or the time of day. It is just part of the road.
