Akam Dhaba

Akam Dhaba is located on Anjala Road, right on the way to the airport in Amritsar. Being near the airport means we get all sorts of people. Some are just landing and are starving, and others are heading out and want one last local meal. It’s a basic dhaba setup, 143002 area style. We have benches and tables that have seen a lot of use. The air usually smells like whatever is cooking on the stove that day. We don’t have air conditioning or anything like that, just some fans to keep the air moving. It can get dusty being near the road, so we are always wiping things down. The menu isn't huge, but it has the stuff people expect from a dhaba. We don't have a formal way of doing things. You just come in, tell us what you want, and we make it. It’s a bit loud with the traffic passing by, but that’s the reality of being on this road. We’ve been here long enough that the regulars don’t even look at the menu anymore. They just sit down and wait for their usual. It’s hard work, especially in the summer heat, but it’s our life. We just keep the fire going and the food ready for whoever stops their car outside, whether they are in a hurry or just want to sit for a bit.
