Pitamber Family Restaurant

Pitamber Family Restaurant is right in front of the bus stand in Amritsar. You can find us right by the exit gate. It is a very loud and busy place to be. All day long, you hear the buses honking and the conductors shouting out destinations. There is always a cloud of dust in the air from the tires on the road. We spend a lot of time wiping down the tables because of that. People come in with their heavy bags and suitcases, looking for a place to sit for a bit before their next bus leaves. We see families traveling together, kids who are tired, and old men who just want a glass of water. It is a plain place with simple chairs and tables. We do not have any decorations on the walls. The floor is made of hard stone that has been walked on by thousands of people. We start cooking early in the morning when the first buses arrive from the villages. The kitchen gets hot, especially in the summer months. We do not talk much, we just focus on the orders. It is a constant cycle of people coming and going. Most of them we will never see again. That is the nature of being at a bus stand exit. We are just here to provide a spot for them to sit and eat while they wait for their life to move to the next city.
