Mehra Guest House

We’ve been here on Mahna Singh Road for quite a while now. It’s a busy spot, especially being so close to the Golden Temple. You can hear the sounds from the street all day long. My family runs this guest house, and we usually start the day early because pilgrims are always moving about. Our building is right opposite Guru Teg Bahadur College, so there’s always people walking by. It’s not a fancy place, just a simple set of rooms for people who need a place to sleep while they visit the temple. Sometimes the fan makes a bit of noise or the stairs feel narrow, but it’s our home and business mixed into one. We spend most of our time sitting at the small desk near the entrance, checking people in and telling them where to find good tea nearby. The weather in Amritsar gets really hot in the summer, so we try to keep the lobby shaded. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us doing the cleaning and making sure the beds are made. It’s a lot of work keeping up with everyone coming and going. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when groups arrive all at once, but we just manage it as it comes. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but Mahna Singh Road stays pretty much the same kind of crowded. It's just a regular place for regular people.
