Marwari Dhaba

We are located right in Katra Ahluwalia in Amritsar. It is a very busy area, especially with the Golden Temple being so close. You can hear the sounds of the crowd and the rickshaws all day long. Our dhaba is just a simple place. We are right opposite Gurdas Ram Jalebian Wala, so sometimes the smell of frying jalebis comes over to us. It’s been our spot for a long time. We open early to get things ready before the big rush starts. The furniture is just basic wooden benches and tables that have been here for years. They aren't fancy but they do the job. We serve Marwari style food even though we are in the middle of Punjab. It’s a bit of a mix, I suppose. The street outside is always full of people from all over the country. Sometimes it gets quite dusty with all the traffic, so we are always wiping down the tables. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know how to handle the cooking and the cleaning. It’s not the kind of place you go for a quiet dinner because it’s almost never quiet in this part of Amritsar. We don't have any air conditioning, just some fans that keep the air moving. It’s an honest way to make a living. We just keep the food coming and hope people like it enough to come back next time they are in the city.
