Being a dhaba, we keep things very simple and traditional. We don’t have fancy air conditioning or velvet chairs. It’s just a basic place on Railway Road where you can sit down. The noise from the trains and the traffic outside is just part of the background here. We’ve been here for a long time and everyone around Railway Road knows the spot. We start early in the morning because that’s when the work begins. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and cooking over big fires. Opposite Mehra Hotel is a good landmark because everyone knows that hotel. People who are traveling through Amritsar often stop by because we are right on the main path. We don’t have a website or a marketing person. It’s just us Bachans running the place. We do the cooking, the cleaning, and the accounts ourselves. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. The dhaba stays busy most of the time because it’s a convenient spot. We just want to get through the day and make sure the customers are fed. It’s a straightforward way of living here on Railway Road. We've been here for years and hope to stay.
